General Motors Co. (GM) on Monday unveiled a new all-electronic
platform to enhance safety, information, entertainment and
connectivity in its new models.
The new platform, which debuted in the 2020 Cadillac CT5 sedan,
will go into production later this year and should be featured in
most GM vehicles by 2023, the company said.
The new system features expanded capacity for over-the-air
software updates, and offers more rapid communications within the
vehicle itself and to outside sources, the company said.
The auto maker also said the new system offers additional
cybersecurity protections in both the hardware and software.
"The critical role of software and its importance to our
vehicles, both now and for years to come, cannot be overstated,"
said Mark Reuss, president of GM. "Our new digital vehicle platform
and its eventual successors will underpin all our future
innovations across a wide range of technological advancements,
including EVs and expanded automated driving."
