Dow Jones News
International stocks trading in New York traded lower
Monday.
The BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts fell 1.2%,
to 129.48. The European index decreased 1.2%, to close at 119.74.
The Asian index was dropped 1.2%, to 152, and the Latin American
index was off 1.5%, closing at 221.63. The emerging markets index
fell 1.6%, to 277.34.
The ADR for Vodafone Group Plc (VOD) traded actively, falling
0.6% to $20.01. Last Friday, Britain's Ofcom agency, which
regulates telecommunications companies, said it would review how
broadband firms price their products amid fears that some customers
are paying too much. The announcement inspired investors to sell
off telecom companies in the country, including Vodafone, a market
move that continued Monday.
UBS Group AG's (UBS) ADR also traded actively, losing almost 1%
to close at $12.25. Earlier in the day, the Swiss bank agreed to
pay $15 million over regulatory deficiencies in its
anti-money-laundering program. Over a roughly 13-year period ending
last year, a bank broker-dealer unit violated the U.S.'s Bank
Secrecy Act, which requires financial firms to report suspicious
activity, officials said. The bank said Monday it was pleased to
have resolved the matter. UBS will pay $5 million each to the U.S.
Treasury Department, the Securities and Exchange Commission and an
industry-funded regulator.
