12:109 ET - The latest acquisition planned by Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) could signal diversification from corn-based sweetener production. ADM wants to buy Chamtor, a French producer of wheat-based sweeteners and starches, as global demand rises for those products. The sweeteners and starches division was responsible for 6.5% of ADM's revenue in 2016, but nearly a quarter of segment operating profit overall. ADM wants to close the purchase of Chamtor by this summer. Chamtor, whose parent is Vivescia Industries, has 210 workers. (bowdeya.tweh@wsj.com; @BowKnowsBiz)
