BERLIN--BMW AG (BMW.XE) is planning to announce a joint
initiative with Mobileye NV (MBLY) and Intel Corp. (INTC) that
could see the German luxury auto maker and the technology companies
cooperate in developing self-driving car technology, analysts
said.
The three companies have invited journalists to a joint news
conference on Friday, July 1, at 1400 GMT at BMW's technology
center near Munich.
Isreal's Mobileye is a provider of software that processes
information from a car's sensors and cameras to be used in
collision avoidance and other driver assistance systems.
Intel is the world's leading chip maker and has been pushing
into the automotive industry to take advantage of the growing
market for semiconductors that regulate basic automotive
functions.
Though it is not clear how extensive the cooperation between the
three companies could be, the initiative brings together a software
provider in the evolving field of autonomous vehicles with the
world's leading chip maker and the world's leading premium-car
manufacturer.
