Professional liability industry veteran bolsters Counterpart’s growth in partnership with its recent territory leadership appointments

Counterpart, the leading management and professional liability insurtech backed by Markel, Aspen, and Westfield, today announced its new appointment of industry veteran, Michael Muglia, as Counterpart’s Professional Liability Insurance Lead. In addition, Counterpart has promoted three of its longest-standing team members—Brad Bahler, Satwik Mysore and Jake O’Donnell—as Territory Leads.

Muglia brings more than a decade of experience across the insurance industry, specializing in professional liability solutions. Most recently, he served as the Professional Liability Director at RB Jones, a leading MGU providing specialty risk coverage. Before RB Jones, Muglia spent 10 years at Burns & Wilcox, an independent wholesale broker and underwriting manager, where he served in a number of roles, including National Underwriting Director of Professional Liability.

“Counterpart is an innovative company with great leadership. It is exciting to be a part of an organization that is shaking up the insurance industry,” Muglia said. “I’m very excited for this opportunity and look forward to joining the exceptional team of insurance and technology experts.”

Brad Bahler, who was promoted to Central and Southeast Territory Lead, joined as a Risk Engineer in 2021 and has continuously taken on more leadership responsibilities over the last three years. Before joining Counterpart, Bahler worked at Travelers, where he was one of the top-producing underwriters specializing in Management Liability.

Satwik Mysore will oversee Counterpart’s wholesale distribution partners in the Western US as West Territory Lead. He has been in the Insurance industry for over a decade and was promoted to Risk Engineer Manager after joining Counterpart as the first underwriter in 2020. Mysore gained extensive experience underwriting private nonprofit and for-profit management liability at Travelers, where he was also one of the top-producing underwriters.

Jake O’Donnell, the new Territory Lead in the Northeast, has a remarkable track record of supporting private and non-profit businesses with D&O, EPL, Fiduciary, and Crime coverages. He had considerable success building profitable books while at Chubb/Westchester prior to joining Counterpart in 2022.

“Counterpart is a place for smart, driven management liability and professional liability insurance experts to have an outsized impact on product lines that are long overdue for innovation,” said Mike Levins, Head of Insurance at Counterpart. “We are thrilled to see long-term colleagues like Brad, Satwik, and Jake excel in this environment and continue to welcome exceptional talent like Mike. Mike’s extensive knowledge and relationships across health, lawyers, architects & engineers, and numerous other classes of professional liability insurance will enable us to support more businesses with our world-class products and services.”

Counterpart’s liability products and services can accurately identify a company's specific risks. This customized and tailored underwriting approach makes it accessible for many small businesses, which are particularly prone to risk in the current economic landscape.

The organization updates follow the launch of Counterpart’s new admitted private & not-for-profit program and claims management services expansion.
