The Driving DCX (Diabetes Care eXperts) program partnered with Henry Ford Medical Group and Health Alliance Plan to develop an initiative that integrates diabetes care with existing workplace programs. Program components include onsite health screenings for blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol, appointments with certified diabetes educators and "Lunch and Learn" session on diabetes care. The Diabetes and Kidney Advocacy Day is hosted by the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan and the Michigan Diabetes Outreach Network and advocates funding for diabetes and kidney disease prevention. One in three children born in 2000 will develop diabetes and diabetes is the leading cause of kidney disease. Seventy percent of all cases of kidney failure caused by diabetes or high blood pressure may have been prevented or delayed.
