UNILEVER ENTERS ARGENTINIAN ICE CREAM MARKET

Unilever, the world's largest ice cream company, is to enter
the Argentinian ice cream market with the acquisition of
Monthelado ice-cream business from Philip Morris. Terms of
the deal were not disclosed.

Monthelado, with an annual turnover of approximately
#29million, is the second largest ice cream business in
Argentina, which itself is the second largest ice cream market
in Latin America. The company employs some 350 full time
employees and has an advanced manufacturing facility at
Rosario, near Buenos Aires.

Mr Charles Strauss, President for Unilever's Latin America
Business Group, said: "The acquisition of Monthelado is
significant. As we have stated publicly, Latin America is a
region with high growth potential for Unilever and ice cream
is a priority category.

"We see considerable potential in the Argentinian ice cream
market for profitable growth, by combining Unilever's proven
expertise in ice cream with Monthelado's in-depth local
knowledge and strong management team."

This acquisition also reflects Unilever's confidence in
Argentina as an attractive market and will strengthen its
position in food in that country.

Unilever's strategy will be to bring a high-level of
innovation to the existing local brands as well introduce its
famous brands, such as Magnum. In addition Unilever will look
to develop Monthelado's manufacturing, distribution and
marketing operations to build on its existing business
success.
