                      CHRISTMAS RETAIL TRADING STATEMENT


Ted Baker, the designer clothing brand, is delighted to announce today that
retail sales in the period from 1 November to 24 December 2001 were 24.7%
ahead of retail sales for the same period last year. Retail gross margins have
improved since the first half but remain slightly below retail gross margins
for the same period last year reflecting the additional outlet stores now
open.  Stock levels are in line with expectations and we will enter the new
season with a clean stock position.


Commenting on trading, Ray Kelvin, Chief Executive, said:

"The Ted Baker brand has performed strongly during the important Christmas
period and we remain confident in the outcome for the full financial year."



Ted Baker plc will be announcing its preliminary results for the year to 26
January 2002 on 26 March 2002.
