                   TRADING UPDATE AND NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS



Dobbies Garden Centres plc ("Dobbies") today reports on trading during the
Christmas period incorporating the 5 weeks to 29 December 2002. Total sales
increased by 18.9% with like for like sales up 6.9%.

Cumulatively for the 9 weeks year to date to 29 December total sales rose by
17.0%, 4.1% like for like.

The Company's Preliminary Results for the year ended 31 October 2002 will be
announced on 11 February 2003.
