Walmart Inc. (WMT) Chief Executive Doug McMillon's 2018 total compensation rose to $23.6 million, from $22.8 million in 2017.

The retailer said in its proxy filing that Mr. McMillon's performance-related compensation reflected solid financial performance and said he "accelerated Walmart's transformation strategy to become the first company to offer a seamless shopping experience at scale."

Under the pay ratio disclosure required under Dodd-Frank, Walmart said its median worker had total compensation of $21,952, resulting in a ratio of 1,076 to 1.

Mr. McMillon said in his letter to shareholders that the company has made progress during "a period of significant change at Walmart," including technology efforts.

"We're putting technology to work with an autonomous scanner that checks our sidecounters to help us improve in-stock levels, and an autonomous floor cleaner that carries a camera to gather data on our product features to share with a FAST Unloader system in the back room that prioritizes items for restocking," Mr. McMillon said.

"We are also making good progress on omnichannel initiatives," including its grocery delivery partnership in Japan with Rakuten Inc. (4755.TO), he said.
