Nike Inc. joined other retailers in shutting down stores in China in response to a deadly virus outbreak and warned that its financial results would be affected.

The retailer didn't specify the financial impact but said that as a precaution and in cooperation with local authorities, it had closed down about half of Nike-owned stores "with corresponding dynamics across our partner stores."

The company said it would update the situation and the financial impact during its third-quarter earnings call.
