Continuing its tradition of leadership in water conservation,
KB Home is the only homebuilder to be honored by EPA WaterSense
program for nine straight years
KB Home (NYSE: KBH) today announced that, for the ninth year in
a row, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has
recognized the national homebuilder’s industry-leading achievements
in constructing water-efficient homes and its additional
contributions to the WaterSense program by awarding it the 2019
WaterSense® Sustained Excellence Award.
“KB Home is honored to be recognized for our leadership in this
important area, having been the first national builder to adopt the
WaterSense efficiency standard and build WaterSense labeled new
homes,” said Jeff Mezger, chairman, president and chief executive
officer of KB Home. “The WaterSense program plays a significant
role in advancing water-saving technologies and helping to build a
future that is more sustainable for the environment and improves
the quality of life for our homeowners.”
KB Home continues to champion the pivotal role the WaterSense
program plays in both lowering monthly utility costs and minimizing
each buyer’s carbon footprint and energy usage. The homebuilder has
built more homes certified under the WaterSense or Water Smart
labels than any other national builder. To date, KB Home has built
more than 15,000 WaterSense labeled and Water Smart homes and
installed over 600,000 WaterSense labeled fixtures.
The cumulative result of its efforts is significant. KB Home
estimates that its homes conserve approximately 1.5 billion gallons
of water annually. As an industry pioneer in exploring and
evaluating water-saving innovations, KB Home actively works in
collaboration with organizations like EPA, Southern Nevada Water
Authority and RESNET® to identify new ways to enhance water
efficiency.
“Our partners have made water-saving products, homes and
programs accessible across the nation and have educated millions on
the importance of water conservation,” said Veronica Blette, Chief,
WaterSense Branch. “These WaterSense award-winners are leading the
fight against water waste to save our most precious resource.”
Since 2006, WaterSense and its partners have helped consumers
save more than 3.4 trillion gallons of water, which is enough to
supply all U.S. households for four months. In addition to water
savings, WaterSense labeled products and homes have helped reduce
the amount of energy needed to heat, pump and treat water by 462.5
billion kilowatt hours—enough to power more than 44.4 million homes
for a year—and save $84.2 billion in water and energy bills.
