Gateway Maximizes Power of New 64-Bit Dual Core Processors in
Customizable BTX PCs, Available Direct from Gateway Next Generation
PCs Deliver Power, Performance; Innovative BTX Design Enhances
Component Reliability up to 82 Percent for Extended PC Life(1)
IRVINE, Calif., June 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gateway today
introduced the company's first desktop PCs that combine the power
of Intel's latest 800 series dual core processors with the benefits
of a BTX chassis, which can be customized to meet a wide range of
consumer needs. The Gateway(R) FX400 series PCs marry cutting-edge
technology with premium features to give consumers optimum
performance for games, digital video and other graphically
intensive applications. All of the new PCs are based on Gateway's
unique patent-pending design that optimizes Intel's BTX
architecture, resulting in enhanced reliability through efficient
cooling. The new Gateway(R) FX400 series desktop PCs feature the
new dual core Intel(R) Pentium(R) D 800 series processors. This new
technology includes two complete processing cores that operate
simultaneously to quickly and easily handle two intensive tasks at
once, such as burning a music CD while sending digital photos to a
friend. Dual core technology also provides support for future
64-bit software. The systems are built upon the new Intel(R) 945G
chipset and include Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950
for excellent graphical capabilities. "Many customers want a custom
system to optimize performance for their unique needs, whether it's
gaming or digital content creation. Gateway's direct channel
enables them to select from a variety of processors, hard drives,
software and other components, so they get the right system and the
right price," said Marc Demars, Gateway's senior director of
product marketing. "People also want their PC investment to last.
The Gateway(R) FX400 series gives customers exceptional
reliability, speed, power and expansion for the long haul with its
fast dual core processors and quiet and cool BTX design." BTX
Design -- Components up to 82 Percent More Reliable Than Within
Traditional PCs Based on the company's patent-pending design that
optimizes Intel's BTX architecture, the Gateway FX400 series' key
components are up to 82 percent(1) more reliable than those within
a traditional ATX platform. By circulating air more efficiently,
internal components like processors, hard drives and graphics cards
are cooled more effectively. In addition, the innovative, tool-free
BTX design makes it fast and easy to upgrade components, by
enabling users to access the motherboard, optical disks, hard
drives and media card readers without tools. It offers significant
expansion with seven bays (two 5.25-inch drive bays, two 3.5-inch
drive bays) and three internal hard disk drive (HDD) bays. It also
has five total expansion slots including 1 PCI Express x16 slot,
one PCI Express x1 slot and three PCI slots. Configure-to-Order
Options Cater to Consumer's Unique Needs The PCs can also be
customized with a wide array of premium features including fast,
high-performance processors, graphic cards and memory. Consumers
can choose several options of LCD flat panel displays and SATA hard
drive options from 120GB to 500GB(2). The systems also feature the
latest in networking technology -- integrated Gigabit (10/100/1000)
Ethernet -- to ensure a fast network connection. Digital media and
gaming are enhanced by all the choices offered in the Gateway(R)
FX400 series. Gateway customers will be able to select the features
that best fit their needs. Those interested in the Gateway(R) FX400
can select from three speeds of the dual core processors, from the
Intel(R) Pentium(R) D 820 (2.8 GHz) processor to the Intel(R)
Pentium(R) D 840 (3.2 GHz) processor. They can also select memory
ranging from 512MB to 4GB. Multiple nVidia(R) graphics cards with
up to 256MB of discrete video memory are available to provide
realistic gaming images and enhanced graphics playback. Customers
can also select from Gateway(TM) GMAX 2100 2.1 or 5.1 speakers with
subwoofers for dynamic sound. Other options include multiple
optical drives, such as a DVD-ROM, CD-RW, CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo and a
16x double-layer multi-format DVD+/-RW drive. Service and Support
Programs The new PCs are supported by the company's standard
limited warranty options(3). Additional service and support options
are available. Gateway's commitment to quality and reliability is
evident in its award-winning line of PCs as well as in its
exceptional service and support programs. The company's extensive
online support center helps customers maximize their PC investment;
it gives them easy access to customer support representatives and
information on important issues such as warranties, technical
issues and upgrading. Gateway offers a pro-active service tool
called BigFix(R) at no charge on all its PCs(4). With the
customer's permission, BigFix identifies and sends messages
offering updates and general PC maintenance. Additionally, the
Gateway System Recovery solution offers all customers the ability
to easily recover drivers, applications or the full factory image.
The Gateway System Recovery solution provides advanced recovery
capabilities that are always available, so consumers experience
less down time in the event of a system issue. Unlike other
recovery systems, Gateway's solution lets customers restore the
factory software image while maintaining all data files stored on
the PC. Back-up options and restore procedures are simple, thanks
to Gateway's easy-to-understand recovery guide and system recovery
interface. Gateway PCs also come with the Gateway Internet Security
Shield. It protects the computer from viruses and other unwanted
issues with Norton Internet Security 2005 (Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam,
Firewall and Parental Control) and McAfee Anti-Spyware. Pricing and
Availability The Gateway(R) FX400 series desktop PCs come in
several recommended configurations with a choice of Windows(R) XP
Home, XP Pro or Microsoft(R) Windows Media Center Edition 2005 as
