SeeBeyond (Nasdaq:SBYN) today announced that the UK's largest
service and distribution organization, Nisa-Today's, has deployed
the SeeBeyond Integrated Composite Application Network Suite
(SeeBeyond ICAN Suite) as the backbone of its new application
infrastructure. Supporting the replacement of a large number of
core systems with several "best of breed" applications, the
SeeBeyond suite has streamlined supply chain operations and
optimized the Company's systems functionality. To maintain and
enhance its competitive advantage in an ever-changing marketplace,
Nisa-Today's identified the need for a new infrastructure to ensure
fast, streamlined exchange of data between systems. As a result, it
had to find the best way of seamlessly linking new applications
with existing systems, many of which would ultimately be replaced.
"With antiquated legacy systems running on a variety of different
platforms, our existing infrastructure allowed very little
flexibility and resulted in large amounts of support overhead,"
said Peter Walker, senior systems development manager at
Nisa-Today's. "For example, numerous islands of duplicate
information had evolved across our organization causing significant
resource overhead in terms of data entry. It also limited the level
of functionality we could offer our members in terms of pricing and
promotional strategies." The Company's new application
infrastructure is based around the Retek Merchandising System
(RMS). This system is linked to a variety of other business
applications, both old and new, including an online Order Capture
System (OCS) developed specifically for Nisa-Today's by services
firm, Enabler, and Nisa-Today's warehousing and distribution
systems. For the project to be manageable, rollout of the new
systems had to be gradual with functionality maintained throughout.
As a Retek partner, SeeBeyond supports customers like Nisa-Today's
through its eMerchant offering to help both maximize investments in
Retek software through integration with legacy applications and
reduce cost and time to market. "It is essential that any
organization operates its supply chain in the most cost-efficient
way possible and to do this they need to seamlessly integrate data
across best-of-breed and legacy applications with guaranteed
delivery," said Ian Hill, senior vice president and general
manager, EMEA, SeeBeyond. "SeeBeyond has proven success in
delivering this capability with an extensible solution suite that
provides the flexibility, market-leading connectivity and
reliability to streamline and manage supply chain operations." The
new Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)-based infrastructure gives
Nisa-Today's the ability to adopt a more flexible approach to
pricing and promotions and enables the organization to enhance its
existing services to members. For example, Nisa-Today's can now set
prices individually for more than 6,000 stores, and can also offer
targeted promotional offers to members who are willing to buy their
goods in larger quantities. Ultimately, the new solution allows
change to be implemented much quicker than before with minimal
impact. For more information about SeeBeyond's solutions for
