The following table lists unplanned and planned production
outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The
information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining
sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.
Most recently, Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) said an upset at its
Wilmington, Calif., refinery on Thursday resulted in flaring. The
filing to California state environmental regulators did not say if
the event had an impact on production.
Citgo shut the East Plant FCCU at its Corpus Christi, Texas
refinery owning to Sunday's East Plant alkylation unit fire,
according to a report to Texas state environmental regulators. The
fire is under control as emergency crews were on-site while
residual hydrocarbons burn off, the Co. said.
Pasadena Refining's crude unit at its Pasadena, Texas, refinery
was back to normal operations Monday following a lightning strike
Saturday that disabled power to an emergency generator.
Also, Citgo said Monday that the fire at the East Plant
alkylation unit at its Corpus Christi, Texas, refinery was under
control. The fire started early on Sunday and injured a worker who
was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital. The alkylation unit
remains shut.
And Valero (VLO) Monday reported a brief snag at the coker unit
at its Benicia, California refinery. The event had no material
impact on operations, the company said.
BP (BP) Monday restarted a Resid Hydro-Treating Unit at its
Texas City, Texas refinery; the unit was shuttered by an explosion
during the last week of July in 2005.
On Friday, a person familiar with operations at BP's Carson,
Calif., refinery said the FCCU and associated units shut over the
July 11-12 weekend would be restarted at the end of the month.
ConocoPhillips (COP) recently shut an FCCU at its Alliance
refinery in Belle Chasse, La., for unplanned maintenance, a trade
source said Wednesday. The work is expected to take seven to 10
days.
ConocoPhillips on Wednesday began the process of restarting a
hydrotreating unit and a desulfurization unit at its Bayway
Refinery in Linden, New Jersey. The units were shuttered on Tuesday
due to a "minor" fire, a person familiar with operations at the
plant said.
And repairs are ongoing at Valero Energy Corp.'s (VLO) St.
Charles refinery in Norco, La., the company said on July 13. A fire
on June 9 shut the crude unit, the vacuum unit and a coker unit;
the outages weren't expected to be lengthy at that time. There is
no restart estimate yet.
Valero on July 7 said that the crude and fluid catalytic
cracking units at its Ardmore, Okla., refinery still aren't
producing any product following a power outage and fire. The fire
was put out, but the hydrotreater is still shut down, a company
spokesman said.
