eMagin Corporation (AMEX:EMA), a leader in virtual imaging technology, is demonstrating its low-power OLED microdisplay technologies in Stand 2745 at the 2005 Association of the US Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting and Exposition in the Washington Convention Center today through October 5. eMagin microdisplays are used in growing numbers of situational awareness, thermal imaging, and simulation and training applications. The company's OLED-on-silicon technology delivers a unique combination of high-contrast, flicker-free imagery and ruggedness - with the lowest power consumption of any microdisplay solution. The solid-state OLED displays do not use liquid crystal fluids, so they instantly switch images on and off at low temperatures (-40 degrees C) and images do not fade out (know as clearing) at high temperatures (+65 degrees C) which are common temperature operational requirements for the military. Some customers have greatly extended the operational temperature range. OLED microdisplays are now used in multiple military applications worldwide. "The ability to see maps and orders, to see the target, to experience the visual sensation of a simulation - all make more effective and safer soldiers," noted Susan Jones, chief marketing and strategy officer, eMagin Corporation. "To perform effectively in the field, soldiers need access to mission-critical information for extended periods of time, all the time, regardless of environmental conditions. New OLED microdisplays have proven to be the most power-efficient technology using a fraction of the power required for legacy CRT or LCD technologies. That's been one of the primary focuses for us in developing these microdisplays." eMagin is demonstrating examples of prominent OLED-based customer products designed and qualified to operate in harsh environments. -- Kaiser Electro-Optics' (www.keo.com) the full-color SO-35 monocular viewer, developed for the Land Warrior Program, is a multi-purpose device, capable of providing thermal sighting and situational awareness. -- Liteye Systems' (www.liteye.com) LE-450 full-color viewer and the LE-500 see-through viewer bring virtual imaging to commercial and military customers in Europe and North America. -- Quantum3D's Expedition(TM) (www.quantum3d.com) system integrates eMagin's Z800 3DVisor into a wearable, embedded-training platform. Based on Quantum3D's THERMITE(TM) Tactical Visual Computer and featuring a patent-pending weapon-mounted synthetic environment controller, correlated head/body/weapon motion trackers, and load-bearing vest, Expedition provides an integrated, wireless, open-architecture platform that enables rapid development and deployment of embedded training and mission-rehearsal scenarios. -- Simrad Optronics' LP10TL Target Locator (www.simrad-optronics.no) provides instant target coordinates and fall-of-shot correction. The menu-driven LP10TL works well with field measurement devices, thermal cameras, terminals, gyros, and similar equipment. Providing dual 7x or 12x magnification and operating effectively from temperatures as low as -30 degrees C, the target locator system also incorporates GPS, digital magnetic compass, and a high-resolution OLED display. -- Total Fire Group's (www.totalfiregroup.com) Fire-Warrior micro thermal imaging system, a monochrome, helmet-based unit provides hands-free thermal imaging for firefighters, leaving both hands free for the work of fighting while providing critical visual information. eMagin's Z800 3DVisor will also be featured with Quantum3D's Expedition System in the Army Materiel Command's exhibit, Stands 519 and 706. Built on the same OLED technology base, the Z800 3DVisor provides full-color, 360-degree, 3D stereovision through its state-of-the-art headtracking and SVGA 3D OLED microdisplays. With hi-fi stereo sound and a noise-canceling microphone, the 3DVisor enables group training scenarios as well as individual-based training sessions. To make an appointment with eMagin representatives at AUSA, prime and subcontractors can contact Rob Sainsbury, Vice President, Government Programs, at 425-749-3618 or rsainsbury@emagin.com. OLED - Ideal for Near-Eye Applications Owing to the inherent benefits of OLED technology, eMagin's microdisplays deliver the resolution, brightness, and speed for a broad range of defense and security applications - at the lowest system power of any near-eye solution. Because OLEDs refresh in microseconds rather than milliseconds, eMagin microdisplays deliver images and information virtually flicker-free in near-eye applications. With the world's lowest power display solution they provide soldiers with critical information for extended periods in harsh environments, ranging from extreme cold to high heat without additional heaters or coolers. Since they emit light in all directions, OLED microdisplays also accommodate a greater range of pupil movement than LCDs. About eMagin Corporation A leader in OLED microdisplay and virtual imaging technologies, eMagin integrates high-resolution OLED microdisplays, magnifying optics, and systems technologies to create a virtual image that appears comparable to that of a computer monitor or a large-screen television. eMagin's OLED displays have broad market reach and are incorporated into a variety of near-to-eye imaging products by military, industrial, medical and consumer OEMs who choose eMagin's award-winning technology as a core component for their solutions. eMagin has recently introduced its first direct-to-consumer system, the Z800 3DVisor, which provides superb 3D stereovision and headtracking for PC gaming, training and simulation, and business applications. eMagin's microdisplay manufacturing and R&D operations are co-located with IBM on its campus in East Fishkill, New York. System design facilities and sales and marketing are located in Bellevue, Washington. A sales office is located in Tokyo, Japan.
