Nissan Motor plans to invest up to 3 billion pounds ($2.39 billion) in electric vehicles, battery production and infrastructure in the U.K., it said Friday.

The Japanese automaker said it plans to expand its EV hub in Sunderland, which will now comprise three gigafactories.

All three of the models made at the U.K. site will be 100% electric, Nissan said. These include future versions of Nissan's Qashqai and Juke crossovers, as well as a next-generation Leaf model, the company said.

Nissan also confirmed that all its new cars in Europe from now will be fully electric.
