VMware Inc. has set Oct. 29 as the record date for the $11.5 billion special dividend associated with its separation from Dell Technologies Inc.

The dividend will be payable to all VMware stockholders of record as of that day, the company said. The precise per-share amount will be announced that day. The dividend will be paid on Nov. 1 if closing conditions are satisfied, the company said.

The dividend is part of a deal in which Dell will spin off its majority stake in VMware.
