Arizona Senator Kate Brophy McGee to Address 147 Online School Graduates at In-Person Ceremony

On Tuesday, May 29, nearly 150 online school students from Insight Academy of Arizona (ISAZ) will gather for an in-person graduation ceremony at the Sheraton Crescent Hotel in Phoenix.

Arizona state senator Kate Brophy McGee will deliver the keynote address to ISAZ’s school-record 147 graduates. “I believe a great education is the key to every child’s success,” McGee said. “I am honored to celebrate these students’ graduation from Insight Academy of Arizona. It represents an important milestone along their path to a successful future.”

An accredited online public school for students statewide, ISAZ’s comprehensive education approach focuses on providing struggling students with the academic, social and emotional support needed to reach graduation. Using a combination of web-based lessons, live online learning sessions and support from state-certified teachers and counselors, the school creates a unique educational experience for each student that helps to ensure their success after high school.

Class of 2018 co-valedictorians and sisters Briana Hiatt and Bridget Hiatt will address their classmates. Both sisters plan to attend Eastern Arizona College in the fall, Briana to study accounting and Bridget to study liberal arts. Lily O’Connell, a teen mom who has overcome many obstacles to make it to graduation, will also speak at commencement. Halle Vincent, who has been accepted to the nursing program at Northern Arizona University, will serve as ISAZ’s salutatorian. In addition, Briana Hiatt is one of four students who will graduate early from ISAZ as members of the Class of 2018.

“Graduation is a wonderful time of year, and I am so proud of each of our graduates,” said ISAZ head of school Kelly Van Sande. “Our mission at Insight Academy of Arizona is to help students who have experienced setbacks in their education get back on track toward their high school diploma, and the Class of 2018 is proof that with hard work and support, they can meet their full potential.”

ISAZ graduates reported that they have been accepted to numerous colleges and universities, including Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, Full Sail University, Cal State Long Beach and Pima Community College.

Students choose online school for a variety of reasons, including a safe learning environment, advanced learning options and the ability to support extracurricular pursuits or medical needs.
