Company Also Announces Its Terrestrial Interface Is Being Actively
Shipped to Customers SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 7
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU;
TSX: JDU), the leading enabler of broadband and optical innovation,
today announced the addition of Multicast Analysis capabilities to
the DTS digital video services test and measurement solution. This
addition underscores the company's commitment to supporting Digital
and IP Video service providers around the world with the most
effective tools to ensure efficiency and reliability when
maintaining their networks and deploying new services. JDS Uniphase
also announced that its recently launched terrestrial interface for
the DTS is now being shipped to customers. JDS Uniphase, which
recently acquired Acterna, will have the DTS Multicast Analysis
feature, as well as traditional industry-leading test capabilities
supporting the broadcast industry, on display at IBC 2005,
September 8-14, Amsterdam, Hall 8, Booth 8.314. Launching Analysis
of Multicast IP Video Services The new Multicast IP Video Services
Analysis capabilities added to the DTS come at a critical time in
the broadcast industry. For operators interested in ensuring
accuracy, reliability and precision while delivering DV services
via multicast to customers, the DTS digital video test product line
delivers several features that help ensure a quality viewing
experience. Operators using the multicast analysis feature can now
turn their JDS Uniphase DTS test instrument into a more versatile
digital video (DV) service-receiving device (similar to a STB) and
can perform test functions to the digital video service remotely as
if actually at the customer premise. This functionality enables
proactive identification of trouble spots and improves operational
efficiency and quality of service (QoS) within the network before
potential problems reach the customer. It also enables operators
deploying multicast video services to analyze their digital video
services with ease-of-use, a hallmark of the DTS family of
products. "Multicast analysis is important for operators providing
advanced digital video services today -- JDS Uniphase has
introduced new features to address problems, challenges and signal
interference to enhance efficiency and reliability for operators
managing multicasts," said Sudeep Bose, product line manager for
the DTS product line. "Now, users can leverage the DTS tool's
additional capability to quickly and easily join and leave
multicast service groups, effectively minimize video services
problems and provide higher quality of service for the viewer."
Shipment of DTS's Terrestrial Broadcast Signal Analysis Interface
JDS Uniphase also announced that shipment to customers has started
for its recently released terrestrial broadcast interfaces, COFDM
and 8VSB Modulations, designed to make the DTS digital video test
instrument a single source to address the demands of digital video
deployment. In September 2005, a number of broadcast customers
around the world will be among the first to receive shipment and
enjoy the benefits of the terrestrial interfaces and the COFDM and
8VSB modulations required in the global digital terrestrial
television (DTTV) standards. For terrestrial broadcast engineers,
these new COFDM and 8VSB interfaces combine to provide the single
most comprehensive digital network test and measurement solution
for rapid deployment of digital video services, accurate and
precise signal analysis, lower operational cost and increase
reliability. The terrestrial interfaces also provide the important
function of RF analysis of the DTTV signal, allowing customers to
determine whether or not the problem exists in the digital video
service or in the DTTV transmission. Background: What is the DTS
product line and why is it important for broadcasters at IBC? The
DTS-330 and the DTS-200 are known in the industry for supporting
new services deployment, such as IP Video, VOD and MPEG analysis,
and are utilized to enhance digital, broadcast, satellite and
terrestrial network quality. The recent addition of MPEG-4 real
time analysis drives efficiency and instills confidence for
broadcasters deploying the new and advanced compression technology
in their digital networks. The DTS product line's powerful stream
creation, generation, and analysis capabilities provide a complete
solution for R&D (with aggressive design validation that
enables multiplexer, set-top box, and digital TV manufacturers to
reach the market faster and maintain system quality); deployment
trials (testing digital terrestrial TV, video on demand, digital ad
insertion, multimedia interactive applications, among others);
system installation (allows integrators to solve configuration,
inter-working, and performance issues prior to system acceptance
and turn-up of the service); and network operation (generates base
lining reports and monitors quality of service in both contribution
and distribution networks.) The DTS is also the winner of the 2005
Diamond Award sponsored by Broadband Gear Report. About JDS
