ADRs Rise Wednesday; Banco Santander and BP Among the Actively Traded

International stocks trading in New York closed higher on
Wednesday.
Banco Santander S.A. (SAN) and BP PLC (BP) were among the
companies with ADRs that traded actively.
The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts
rose 0.3% to 142.21. The European index increased 0.3% to 131.11,
the Asian index improved 0.3% to 169.03, the Latin American index
rose 0.2% to 235.12 and the emerging markets index increased 0.2%
to 307.09.
ADRs of Banco Santander S.A. fell 3.3% to $4.09. The Spanish
banking company on Wednesday reported lower earnings for the third
quarter. It took a $1.65 billion charge related to its business in
the United Kingdom, largely because a difficult regulatory
environment.
ADRs of BP PLC rose 1.4% to $38.46. The energy company on
Tuesday reported a loss for the third quarter and lower revenue. On
Wednesday, the company also said in a statement that "no decision
has yet been made with respect to the 4Q 2019 or any future
dividend."
