TOLEDO, Ohio, June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Owens Corning (NYSE:OC) today announced that it received a grant from Mexico's National Counsel of Science and Technology to continue to innovate new ways to insulate concrete housing structures. Owens Corning received one of 15 grants that were awarded as part of a program to help Mexico remain competitive through innovation. "This grant recognizes Owens Corning as a technology leader," said Salvador Valtierra, director of innovation for Latin America. "We are working to apply the company's insulation expertise to the development of insulating solutions to typical Mexican concrete housing construction. New and existing housing in Mexico is rarely insulated, providing a significant market opportunity for Owens Corning." The focus of this grant is to increase the energy efficiency and comfort of low-income concrete homes in Monterrey, Mexico, which has an extreme climate. Small and inexpensive houses are commonly made by pouring concrete into molds, a quick construction method with little thermal efficiency.
