MILPITAS Calif., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Corporation
(NYSE: LSI) today announced it has collaborated with IP Infusion to
develop an advanced carrier-grade solution for mobile backhaul and
carrier Ethernet. The combination of LSI multicore communications
processors and the ZebOS® Network Platform software from IP
Infusion, a leading global provider of networking protocol stacks
for networking equipment manufacturers and converged IP services
providers, provides OEMs with a complete solution that is
standards-compliant and pre-tested for interoperability,
significantly reducing time to market.
The solution drastically reduces total cost of ownership for
OEMs while reducing IP backbone deployment time and delivering a
rich set of quality-of-service (QoS) features for next-generation
mobile broadband applications. The combined offering brings
together innovative networking silicon solutions that feature
substantial traffic management capabilities and a broad set of
fast-path software features alongside a proven transport platform
from IP Infusion. The combined solution is presented in layered
software architecture for seamless integration with the OEM
application layer, assuring quality and reducing development time,
cost and risk.
"Today's networks are undergoing a major upgrade to
next-generation packet-based technology," said Koichi Narasaki, president and CEO, IP Infusion.
"The ZebOS Network Platform is targeted at filling the needs of
equipment manufacturers and service providers faced with the
challenges of the exploding demand for Internet bandwidth due to
the pervasive use of data-demanding, web-enabled smart phones,
peer-to-peer communication, IPTV and Web 2.0 applications. The LSI
and IP Infusion combination enables those upgrades."
ZebOS offers a scalable, robust and standards-based Layer 2 and
Layer 3 carrier-class routing and switching software solution with
additional supported features for the Generalized Multiprotocol
Label Switching (GMPLS), Data Center Bridging and Metro Ethernet
Forum (MEF) implementations of carrier Ethernet stacks. ZebOS
allows OEMs to rapidly add state-of-the-art networking capabilities
to new and existing lines of communication products. Its modular,
platform-independent architecture enables OEMs to pick from a broad
array of protocols and solutions to add to their equipment.
"OEMs demand turnkey hardware and software solutions that
deliver next-generation services, minimize deployment time and
lower development costs," said Tareq
Bustami, multicore communication processor product line
director, LSI. "The combination of LSI networking solutions with
field-tested IP Infusion transport software platform allows OEMs to
rapidly respond to major upgrades of IP backhaul applications."
The pre-integrated offering is available today based on the LSI
APP3000 family of solutions. Utilizing the same APIs, turnkey
solutions based on the Axxia™ communication processor platform are
expected to be available in the first half of 2011.
The APP3000 family of communications processors offers up to 3.5
Gbps of deterministic data-path bandwidth independent of control
plane load and drives down service equipment cost by integrating
external devices: dual ARM® 11 CPUs for 700 DMIPS of service and
control plane processing; integrated security processor and PKA
accelerator with 1.5 Gbps of IPsec/SRTP encryption performance;
carrier-class traffic management with up to 16,000 queues and 5
levels of hierarchy; and dual-mode 1.5/2.5G integrated SerDes to
enable next-generation backplane deployments.
