KBR (NYSE: KBR) today announced that its Building Group has been awarded a $52 million contract by the State of North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services for construction of a new combined facility for the State Public Health Laboratory and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh, N.C.

The anticipated 220,000-square-foot facility will consist of a single building with separate wings for the Public Health Laboratory and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. State-of-the-art analytical laboratories will replace existing ones that are more than 30 years old. The Building Group’s Raleigh office is responsible for this project, which is scheduled to begin in February 2010. O’Brien/Atkins Associates, PA is the architect of record.
