Networked Surveillance Cameras to Monitor Park & Ride Lots SAN
DIEGO, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WFI (NASDAQ:WFII), a
global leader in the design, deployment, and management of wireless
communication networks, information technology solutions and
security systems, announced today that it has been selected to
design and deploy a mesh network and IP surveillance network for
the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Houston (Houston METRO) in
Texas. In conjunction with Pfeiffer & Son Electric and using
Cisco equipment, WFI will design the network and deploy
surveillance cameras to monitor METRO-owned Park and Ride
facilities and intersections in Houston and other areas of Harris
County. The project, which is already underway, is estimated at
more than $2.5 million. The mesh network and IP surveillance
project consists of approximately 343 surveillance cameras to cover
440 acres of METRO-owned parking. The state-of-the-art surveillance
cameras will assist METRO officials in spotting nuances as subtle
as an unattended package or an individual standing too long in a
restricted area. When the camera detects these activities, Houston
TranStar is notified who can alert METRO officers that a crime may
be in progress. Houston METRO's Board of Directors approved the
plan to install a network of IP addressable surveillance cameras in
mid-June and the first lot should be operational in September.
Twenty six of the Park & Ride lots are expected to be
operational by the end of February, 2007. "This project is going to
require an extremely capable and aggressive team to complete this
fast-paced project," said Charlie Pfeiffer, Project Manager of
Pfeiffer &Son Electric. "We are pleased to work with a system
integrator like WFI with such breadth and scale of network
experience." "This is a terrific example of WFI applying its
wireless network and security solution expertise with best-in-class
equipment from Cisco to assist Houston METRO with an innovative
surveillance program that can help cut costs and provide a valuable
public service," said Desmond Wheatley, President of WFI's
Enterprise Division. "Increasingly, WFI has applied its domain
expertise in RF and mesh networks to deliver unique solutions such
as IP-addressable surveillance systems and other IT-related
applications. We look forward to working with Houston METRO and
other clients where WFI can apply its experience with wireless
networks and network engineering to help solve complex operational
and utility challenges." About WFI Headquartered in San Diego, CA,
