OpenTV Corp. (NASDAQ:OPTV), a leading software and technology
provider of advanced digital television solutions, is powering a
unique, multi-platform interactive application for the FOXTEL and
AUSTAR networks, two of the company’s longstanding customers in
Australia, that enables enhanced coverage of the Vancouver Olympic
Winter Games.
The Vancouver Olympic Winter Games application allows FOXTEL and
AUSTAR subscribers to view all four dedicated subscription channels
in a mosaic - one for each of the Vancouver Olympics locations -
and select one for full screen viewing. FOXTEL’s interactive
application allows the network to offer their customers a rich and
wide array of interactive data and information to enhance and
complement the most extensive coverage of an Olympic Winter Games
ever offered in Australia. FOXTEL will broadcast 1600 hours of
coverage across four HD and four SD channels – with every gold
medal event broadcast live and in full and every event with an
Australian competitor broadcast live and in full. The broadcast
coverage is complemented by mobile and Web coverage served by the
same back-end systems and database provided by OpenTV.
“OpenTV’s technology is a fundamental component of our Vancouver
Olympics offering, delivering systems not only for FOXTEL and
AUSTAR networks but also complementing the broadcast coverage by
enabling mobile and broadband interactivity,” said Peter Campbell,
FOXTEL’s Director, Sports & Olympic Games. “The OpenTV team has
once again demonstrated its ability to transform FOXTEL’s vision
for the Olympic Games coverage into interactive television reality
for both SD and HD set top boxes, and proven that it can do so in
the face of a challenging on air deadline.”
“FOXTEL is once again showing 21st century leadership in digital
TV by providing a compelling, interactive experience for its
subscribers across TV, Web and mobile media,” said Ben Bennett,
OpenTV’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are proud to be delivering
some of the key cross platform technology components that will
enable this rich user experience during the 2010 Winter
Olympics.”
FOXTEL’s and AUSTAR’s coverage of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic
Winter Games began on Saturday, February 13th.
