LAS VEGAS, June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The future of the $25 billion
aesthetic medicine market will be marked by bold technology,
dynamic revenue growth and aggressive cultural mainstreaming,
according to speakers and guests at THE Aesthetic Show, a
multidisciplinary medical education meeting held May 24- 27th at
The Mandalay Bay Conference Center. More than 1,000 attendees and
65 companies gathered for the debut of THE Aesthetic Show,
sponsored by Aesthetic Buyers Guide, the leading industry
publication on aesthetic market data and technology. Immersed in
the science and art of facial and body rejuvenation, attendees
imprinted their visions on what promises to be one of the most
lucrative industries to span across several medical disciplines.
"The aesthetic industry is in the midst of a groundbreaking
evolution, outpacing even the most optimistic growth predictions
from analysts and trend forecasters," said Michael Moretti,
publisher of the Aesthetic Buyers Guide and chairman of THE
Aesthetic Show. "We designed THE Aesthetic Show to be a proactive
force in charting the future of an industry that has captivated the
passions and dollars of patients, physicians and businesses
worldwide. We were genuinely overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and
success of this first show and look forward to next year's program,
where we expect several thousand attendees as this field grows."
"Looking good is no longer optional," stated Dr. Ava Shamban, LA
dermatologist of "Extreme Makeover" (ABC) fame, speaking about
patient expectations and the diversity of non-invasive solutions
for skin issues. Dr. Shamban was one of several high-profile
physicians who opened THE Aesthetic Show with their vision of
contemporary aesthetic medicine. Dr. Jason Diamond, LA facial
plastic surgeon from "Dr. 90210" (E!), spoke about the prominent
role of naturalness in his work. Far from the cutting and pulling
of earlier generation surgeons, Dr. Diamond reported a new respect
for minimally invasive procedures and the importance of working
with fillers and fat transfers to add volume. In his keynote
presentation, Moretti summarized the top catalysts for category
growth: -- Body Shaping: with almost 17 million procedures
performed worldwide, there is tremendous pent-up demand in the US
for these treatments, which are already wildly popular in Europe,
Asia and South America, from mesotherapy to non-invasive
energy-based devices to new concepts in laser-assisted liposuction.
-- Skin Tightening: a second generation of skin tightening devices
is currently in the corporate pipeline, about one to two years away
from market introduction, with more exact science and predictable
results. -- Skin Rejuvenation: The highest volume of all
procedures, covering a wide range of treatments from a
cross-section of physicians, aestheticians and surgeons who work
together for the best patient care. -- Longer Lasting Fillers:
Almost 30 years after the introduction of bovine collagen, a new
standard is set with modern fillers that last six months to two
years. Educational sessions, workshops and product demonstrations
were rotated throughout the two-day event, shedding light on
additional category trends. Robert Grant, president of Allergan
Medical (NYSE:AGN) previewed the new direct-to-consumer advertising
for breast implants, designed to generate interest and visits to
plastic surgeons. Grant also reported Botox is now in Webster's
dictionary, a sure sign of the mainstreaming of aesthetic
procedures. In addition to Allergan, sponsors of the meeting
included Mentor (NYSE:MNT), Medicis (NYSE:MRX), Johnson &
Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), Syneron (NASDAQ:ELOS), Cynosure (NASDAQ:CYNO),
Cutera (NASDAQ:CUTR), Candela (NASDAQ:CLZR) and Palomar
(NASDAQ:PMTI). For more information about THE Aesthetic Show or to
