Dow Jones News
NYSE Euronext (NYX) will give itself until the end of the year
to prove it can break CME Group Inc.'s (CME) hold on U.S.
interest-rate futures trading, NYSE Liffe U.S. chief Tom Callahan
told Reuters in an interview Tuesday.
The market exchange has attracted half a million rate-futures
contracts over three months, and is on its way to capturing a
million contracts, possibly in the next six months, Reuters
reported Callahan as saying. CME has 41.4 million rate contracts at
its clearinghouse.
"I can't think of another start-up exchange in its third month
that has this level of open interest," Callahan told Reuters. "We
have massive momentum. We've got a huge pipeline of customers...Our
success and failure is going to be determined in the next six
months."
