Tyco Electronics Corporation (NYSE: TEL) and Bel Stewart
Connector, a division of Bel Fuse Inc. (NASDAQ: BELFA)
(NASDAQ: BELFB), today announced a second-source agreement that
grants Bel Stewart Connector the rights to manufacture, market and
sell Tyco Electronics’ new next-generation RJ point five
connector.
“We previously worked with Bel Stewart Connector on
second-source arrangements and are pleased that they will be a
supplier for the RJ point five connector,” says Dennis Renaud, Tyco
Electronics’ vice president of product management. “Our primary
focus is to provide customers with a dependable second source for
this new interface, and we strongly believe that Bel Stewart has
the full capacity to fill this role.”
The synergy between Tyco Electronics, a global leader in
precision-engineered electronic components, and Bel Stewart
Connector, a leading designer/manufacturer of high-quality,
high-performance interconnect products, provides OEM manufacturers
with two credible, reliable sources for the RJ point five
connector. The two companies, both with well established global
footprints, are able to offer the market a cost-effective connector
solution for higher I/O port density used in both integrated and
non-integrated magnetic systems.
“Bel Stewart has a strong interest in teaming with
technology-leading companies, like Tyco Electronics, as it allows
us to expand our product breadth through cooperation and
collaboration,” says Jeff Biss, product manager of passive jacks at
Bel Stewart Connector. “The OEM community benefits from this
kind of multi-sourced approach, which also increases our scope of
service to the market overall.”
Tyco Electronics’ RJ point five connector offers double the port
density of the traditional RJ-45 Ethernet link while maintaining
field termination capability. The module design of the connector
provides greater flexibility to accommodate specific application
requirements. The product supports gigabit speeds of Cat5E UTP
cable, in integrated and non-integrated magnetic solutions, with a
roadmap to support PoE+ and 10GBASE-T over Cat 6a cable.
