Solutions Market Innovators Collaborate to Deliver Data and Voice
over Broadband and Accelerate Consumer Adoption of VoIP DALLAS,
Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (NYSE:TXN)
(TI) today announced that ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS), a global
communications technology leader in the development of advanced
cable telephony solutions, has selected TI as its primary supplier
of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) silicon and software for
DOCSIS(R) and Euro-DOCSIS based voice-enabled cable modems. TI will
continue to supply technology for ARRIS' data cable modems. As the
voice over broadband marketplace continues to grow, TI and ARRIS
expect their collaboration on next-generation products to continue
to enhance the features and functionality of voice over cable
(VoCable) platforms. To date, the companies have collaborated on
ARRIS' complete and extensive voice over cable product line
offering, comprised of seven individual cable modem products that
are shipping to cable operators worldwide including Charter,
Comcast, Cox, Time Warner and UPC. The companies' collaboration
extends to TI's recently announced Puma IV architecture, which will
allow cable operators to develop and bundle new services as well as
enable technologies such as convergence of mobile wireless and
broadband. "TI technology has provided ARRIS with the foundation
for delivering industry leading VoIP CPE products," said Jim Lakin,
president of ARRIS Broadband. "Working closely with TI has enabled
ARRIS to take the lead in not only certifying products at CableLabs
and tComlabs but also in qualifying products with multiple service
operators (MSOs) around the globe." The ARRIS Touchstone(TM) family
of voice-enabled products showcases a full suite of voice features
including robust software, low power, echo cancellation, voice
packet playout software, tone processing, multiple low bit rate
voice codecs for bandwidth reduction and Session Initiated Protocol
(SIP). "ARRIS has been a strategic partner, collaborating with TI
on defining the future requirements which will drive VoCable
penetration," said Brett Butler, general manager of TI's cable
broadband communications group. "Close collaboration with ARRIS
helped set our current and next generation VoCable architecture and
ensures that it will meet and exceed the needs of developers and
operators." TI has shipped 2 million lines of VoCable to date and
is now the leading supplier of software and silicon for VoCable.
