Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (Pink Sheets: VTSS), a leading
provider of advanced IC solutions for Carrier and Enterprise
networks, announced today that Accton Technology Corporation of
Taiwan (TAIEX:2345), a global provider of networking and
communications solutions, has selected Vitesses E-StaX-34
28-port, fully managed Gigabit Ethernet Switch integrated circuit
(IC) to power its new network controller appliances utilized for
monitoring, controlling, and protecting Enterprise Networks.
Targeted at cost-effective fully managed standalone or stackable
switches, the QoS and advanced security features of Vitesses
E-StaX-34 make it ideal for Enterprise applications, VoIP, servers,
IP-TV and triple-play enabled switches. With best-in-class
non-blocking switching performance and 11 Mbit large packet memory,
the E-StaX-34 is also a perfect choice for use in embedded switch
backplane applications, such as modular computer servers and
Telecom access equipment.
The Vitesse E-StaX switch chipset devices play a critical role
in our ability to deliver best-of-class, competitively priced
Enterprise solutions, said CK Ng, director of brand division
marketing at Edge-Core. We have significantly reduced the cost of
our solution and shortened time-to-market thanks to the advanced
integration level of Vitesses devices and turn-key software
solution. Also, with the Accton software integration capability,
Edge-Core will be able to deliver unique features to our clients,
enhancing the support for triple-play applications."
The advanced security and traffic prioritizing features of the
E-StaX device are delivered through the Vitesse Content Aware
Processor (VCAP), a Ternary Content Addressable Memory
(TCAM)-based engine that delivers wire-speed packet inspection,
frame filtering, rate limitation, snooping, redirect, mirroring,
and accounting functionality used in security and other heavy
packet inspection applications. The VCAP embeds support for a wide
variety of protocols, such as ARP, IPv4, IPv6, and UDP/TCP.
E-Stax-34 also integrates an ARM9 processor, thereby delivering a
high-integration fully managed Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet switching
solution with more than 20 fewer components per port.
Market realities are driving the need for increased bandwidth,
control and management in networking applications, said Uday
Mudoi, director of marketing for Vitesse. The advanced switch
device, E-StaX-34, uniquely helps our Carrier and Enterprise
customers meet these challenges head on with strong turnkey
software platforms that deliver greater efficiency, lower cost and
faster time-to-market.
Turnkey Solutions
Vitesse provides customers with reference systems, including
turnkey hardware and software packages, and responsive application
team support. The software development platform is based on open
source eCos, has a small foot print compared to Linux, and supports
most Layer 2 switching protocols, including MSTP, LACP, LLDP, SNMP
and IGMP snooping for efficient video transmission. Vitesses
software includes support for Power-over-Ethernet (PoE/PoE+) and
Synchronous Ethernet solutions from various ecosystem
participants.
Vitesse 1 Gigabit Ethernet Copper PHYs
The advanced power and energy management features of the
E-StaX-34 allow designers to address environmental and energy
specifications by working in conjunction with Vitesses
award-winning VSC8538 Octal and VSC8664 Quad Copper PHYs. Vitesses
widely adopted Copper PHY devices contain two embedded,
energy-efficient features, ActiPHY and PerfectReach, which were
recognized with the 2008 Global Frost & Sullivan Green
Excellence of the Year Award based on their ability to deliver
green power savings equivalent to over 400mW per port. Additional
information about these features is available on Vitesse's
EcoEthernet web site: www.vitesse.com/green.
