The U.K.'s largest banks have launched a Death Notification
Service to make it easier to inform them of a customer's death.
Industry body U.K. Finance said Wednesday that the free online
service will allow anyone to notify one or several banks of a
customer's death without having to go through the process multiple
times. The notifier will then be contacted by the respective banks
within 10 calendar days.
The organizations launching the joint service are Lloyds Banking
Group PLC (LLOY.LN), Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (RBS.LN),
HSBC Holdings PLC (HSBA.LN), Barclays PLC (BARC.LN), the U.K. arm
of Banco Santander SA (SAN.MC), and Nationwide Building
Society.
"Following the death of a friend or family member, it can be
hard to repeat the same conversation with several organizations.
The launch of this new service is an important milestone in the
industry's commitment to do all it can to provide greater help and
support to people during difficult circumstances," said Stephen
Jones, chief executive of U.K. Finance.
