International stocks trading in New York closed mostly higher on Wednesday.

The BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts increased 0.2% to 152.66. The European index edged up 0.04% to 138.05. The Latin American index rose 2.3% to 271.08, and the emerging-markets index declined 0.5% to 346.23.

Meanwhile, the Asian index eased 0.1% to 185.34.

Gold companies were among those with ADRs that traded actively.

 

Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB, RDSB.LN) said Wednesday that its transforming downstream business is driving a profitable growth outlook for the company, forecasting that organic free cash flow in the division would be in a range of between $6 billion and $7 billion by 2020. ADRs rose 2.3% to $64.92.

 

Gold prices extended gains in aftermarket trading Wednesday, boosted by a less hawkish than expected Federal Reserve and worries over a brewing trade war with China. Among those with ADRs, Gold Fields Ltd. (GFI, GFI.JO) rose 2.1% to $3.89; AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (AU, ANG.JO) rose 3.4% to $9.23; and Randgold Resources Ltd. (GOLD, RRS.LN) rose 2.1% to $84.
