U. S. Steel Names Interim Leader of Tubular Segment

United States Steel Corporation (NYSE:X) President and Chief
Executive Officer David B. Burritt announced today that Douglas R.
Matthews, senior vice president - Industrial, Service Center and
Mining Solutions, will assume day-to-day responsibilities for the
company's Tubular organization on an interim basis following the
recently announced retirement of David J. Rintoul, senior vice
president – Tubular Business, on February 28, 2018.
Commenting on the appointment, Burritt said, “Doug is the best
choice to fill this interim role based on his extensive overall
industry experience and prior tenure as head of our tubular
products organization. His strong leadership will ensure a smooth
transition for U. S. Steel Tubular Products employees and
customers.”
Matthews joined U. S. Steel in 1988 as a management associate at
Mon Valley Works’ Edgar Thomson plant. Since then, he has
advanced through increasingly responsible roles at Mon Valley
Works, PRO-TEC Coating Company, Gary Works, corporate headquarters,
and the former USS/KOBE steelmaking venture in Lorain, Ohio, before
being appointed vice president and general director of the former
U. S. Steel Serbia in 2006. He went on to become president
and general manager of U. S. Steel Canada in 2007, before being
named vice president-Tubular Operations and president- U. S. Steel
Tubular Products in 2009. He advanced to senior vice
president - North American flat rolled operations in 2013, and
assumed his current role in 2016.
A native of Uniontown, Pa., Matthews graduated from Pennsylvania
State University with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
and received a master’s degree in business administration from
Duquesne University.
