LONDON--GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK) on Tuesday said it has
appointed former Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) executive Karenann
Terrell to its newly-created role of chief digital and technology
officer.
The U.K.-based drug maker said the creation of the new role
reflected the company's efforts to improve its use of new
technology.
Ms. Terrell's role would involve applying new technologies to
areas like clinical trials, drug development and improving how the
company interacts with doctors and other health-care workers, the
company said.
Ms. Terrell, who was Wal-Mart's chief information officer from
2012 until her departure earlier this year, will join the drug
maker on Sept. 4 and become a member of its corporate executive
team, Glaxo said.
At Wal-Mart, Ms. Terrell's role involved helping manage the
grocery chain's push into online sales, where customers buy food
through the company's website or mobile app and pick it up at a
local store. She joined Wal-Mart in 2010 as an executive vice
president of information systems, having previously spent four
years as chief information officer at health-care firm Baxter
International Inc. (BAX).
