EDUCAUSE 2016 this week in Anaheim,
CA, Extreme will showcase interactive demos that highlight
its high-density Wi-Fi, application analytics and cloud-based
network management campus solutions that support BYOD and the
Internet of Things (IoT). Additionally, Extreme will display a
prototype of its new high-definition wave 2 camera access point
(AP) and wall plate AP to support increased visibility and control
in university classrooms and dorm rooms, which was also announced

- Extreme Networks achieved steady growth in acquiring new
customers worldwide within its higher education vertical business
this past year, including Mount Mary
College, Purdue University
Northwest, Universidade Federal do Pará and more.
- Specifically, St Edwards University deployed Extreme's
end-to-end product portfolio in order to provide each student and
faculty member with easy access to Wi-Fi on any device ranging from
smartphones to laptops. The university has been able to support
Wi-Fi connectivity across campus for over 15,000 devices on any
given day and embrace forward-thinking learning initiatives.
- Today's launch of the industry's first wave 2 camera AP and
wall plate AP will provide colleges and universities with
heightened visibility and control over devices on the network.
Specifically, the high-definition wave 2 camera AP will increase
student safety across campus and allow students and faculty to
observe previous classroom lectures in order to catch-up on
material or improve learning processes.
- The growing number of devices on college and university
networks has introduced a new era of IoT.
- Based on a recent survey conducted by Extreme, nearly 43
percent of IT education professionals currently use or plan to
implement IoT technology within their business planning and
direction.
- The respondents said the top use cases for IoT technology will
support smart or automated buildings as well as video
surveillance.
- Another survey conducted by Extreme found that 70 percent of
educators and students believe that video cameras should be in
classrooms for increased visibility.
- Higher education is ahead in implementing video recording as
approximately 34 percent of colleges and universities have already
implemented cameras in all classrooms.
