Founder Recognizes Liveris’s Leadership and Advocacy for
Businesses to Better Serve the Global Community
Andrew N. Liveris, chairman and chief executive officer of The
Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW), received the 2016 Appeal of
Conscience Award from the Appeal of Conscience Foundation Monday
evening at the Foundation’s awards dinner in New York. The
Foundation, an interfaith organization founded by Rabbi Arthur
Schneier in 1965, works on behalf of religious freedom and human
rights throughout the world.
In honoring Liveris with the award, Rabbi Schneier said that
Liveris is “An innovative and visionary business executive,
recognized for his leadership, ongoing philanthropy and passionate
advocacy for international corporations to use their resources and
vast reach across boundaries to better serve the global
community.”
“It is a true honor to receive this award,” said Liveris. “The
old mindset that companies have to choose between doing well and
doing good has been revealed as a false choice. More than ever, in
this era of sustainability, you can do well by doing good. That is
our philosophy at Dow. It is the center of our strategy and the key
driver of our company’s future growth. It is, above all, what
motivates us to come to work every day.”
The Foundation also honored at the event French President
François Hollande with its World Statesman Award and Carlos Slim
Helu, honorary chairman of Grupo Carso, honorary chairman of
América Móvil and chairman of the Carlos Slim Foundation, Telmex
Foundation.
Past Appeal of Conscience Award honorees include Mary Barra, CEO
and chairwoman of the General Motors Company, Robert Iger, chairman
and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, and Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of
General Electric, among others.
In 2015, Dow announced its 2025 Sustainability Goals, which seek
to redefine the role of business in society. The goals focus on
unlocking the potential of people and science, valuing nature and
collaborating courageously. For more information on Dow’s 2015
