NRG Energy CEO David Crane Resigns
December 03 2015 - 9:40AM
Dow Jones News
NRG Energy Inc. said Thursday that Chief Executive David Crane
has resigned after more than a decade at the helm of the
company.
NRG named operations chief Mauricio Gutierrez as his
replacement. Mr. Crane will help with the transition through the
end of the year, though his resignation is effective
immediately.
For the past several years, Mr. Crane has been leading a
billion-dollar push into clean power: rooftop solar, wind farms and
electric-car charging stations.
But in September, Mr. Crane's ambitions were dealt a blow as NRG
announced it would scale back its renewable-energy plans to focus
on its traditional power-generation business in hopes of bolstering
its balance sheet and slumping stock.
Mr. Crane told The Wall Street Journal that the moves were to
placate investors.
Shares of NRG, down 60% this year, added 2% in premarket
trading.
