FedEx Corp. has received U.S. antitrust approval to buy TNT
Express NV, a $4.8 billion deal announced in April.
The transaction was included in a Federal Trade Commission list
of transactions receiving early termination of antitrust waiting
periods.
FedEx and TNT said Oct. 20 they were informed by the European
Commission that "no statement of objections will be issued" in
Europe, clearing one of the biggest hurdles for the deal. The
European review has a Jan. 13 deadline.
In January 2013, European regulators scuttled United Parcel
Service Inc.'s pending deal to buy TNT.
FedEx said in laet October that it expected holiday shipments to
increase 12% between Black Friday and Christmas Eve, fueled by
growth in e-commerce shopping.
