New Albany, Ohio, July 22, 2014: Abercrombie &
Fitch Co. (NYSE: ANF) and the National Society of High School
Scholars Foundation (NSHSS FdN), a 501c3 non-profit charity, are
excited to announce the winners of the 2014 Abercrombie & Fitch
Anti-Bullying Scholarship Award Program.
Abercrombie & Fitch created this Scholarship
Program in 2013 as part of its global anti-bullying campaign.
The scholarships were designed for high school
seniors who academically persevered while experiencing bullying,
and for students who have led anti-bullying efforts in their
schools and communities. Ten students were selected out of hundreds
of global applicants based on personal responses describing how
they have persevered or helped promote anti-bullying awareness in
their school or community.
Winners of the 2014 award are Suchi Amin (Murrieta
Valley High School, Murrieta, CA), Margaret Castillo (Mountain
Range High School, Thornton, CO), Ariana Dermand (Newbury Park High
School, Thousand Oaks, CA), Elias Frank (Greenwich High School,
Riverside, CT), Jacob Gardenswartz (Francis Parker School, La Mesa,
CA), Melanie Hubbard (Rutland Senior High School, North Clarendon,
VT), Marcel Perry (I.C. Norcom High School, Portsmouth, VA), MiMi
Phan (I.H. Kempner High School, Sugar Land, TX), Yun Ha Seo (Tinian
Junior and Senior High School, Tinian, MP, Northern Mariana
Islands), and Lauren Trushin (Maritime and Science Technology
Academy Bay Harbor Islands, FL).
Each recipient will be awarded $1,000 toward his
or her college tuition. These scholarships are renewable for up to
three years following the scholarship winner's freshman year.
"The NSHSS Foundation strives to support young
scholars in pursuit of their academic and personal development
goals," said Claes Nobel, founder of the NSHSS Foundation and
senior member of the family that established the Nobel
Prizes. "We aspire to encourage in young people ethical
action, service leadership, and expressions of altruism. We are
immensely proud of these scholarship winners, who clearly
demonstrate these values."
"We were overwhelmed by the programs these
students have initiated in their communities and their perseverance
in helping overcome this cultural epidemic," said Amy Zehrer,
Executive Vice President of Abercrombie & Fitch. "By creating
inclusive environments within their schools and communities, we
view the recipients as champions in the effort to stop
bullying."
Abercrombie & Fitch continues to focus on Anti
Bullying awareness and will be making announcements on their 2014
initiatives in the near future.
