LARCHMONT, N.Y., Nov. 19, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Julia B. Fee Sotheby's International Realty announced today the record sale of a historic waterfront property in Larchmont, N.Y. The listing sold for $11,300,000, setting a record for the highest ever residential property sale in the village of Larchmont, according to OneKey MLS. The next highest sale was the same property, purchased by the sellers for $10.4 million in 2006.

The firm handled both sides of the sale. Mimi Magarelli of the firm's Larchmont brokerage had the listing, and Lisa Collins from the same brokerage brought the buyer.

The property's origins lay in the famous Hoboken Turtle Club, founded by a Continental Army Captain who noticed turtles attacking his chickens at his riverfront property in Hoboken, N.J. To mitigate the problem he created an exclusive club for the wealthy and elite to dine on turtle soup. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other historic individuals were part of the turtle-eating club, and stories suggest Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr ate at the club right before their duel.

The club relocated from New Jersey to New York, and in 1890 the membership purchased the property where this 1898 Victorian house stands, intending to develop it into a permanent home base. When they defaulted on the mortgage, the property went to auction and was purchased by Walter B. Manny, a key investor and salesperson for one of the first adding machines. The house stayed in Manny's family for the next 100 years. Two more owners in the years since, including the sellers, have preserved and maintained the home.

In recent years, the house was featured on the Larchmont House Tour held by the Larchmont Historical Society.

The home sits adjacent to Larchmont's Manor Park, with 1.6 landscaped acres on a promontory above the Sound and harbor. The property includes 500 feet of private shoreline, a deep water dock, jetty and swimming area.

Designed by Frank Ashburton Moore, a prominent area architect in the late 19th century, the 8,182 square-foot house highlights panoramas of the Sound from every room as well as the wraparound porch, bluestone patio, pool and spa. The living spaces include French doors, stained glass windows, and a two-story great room soaring up to a stairway that leads to a glass cupola.

"It's an honor to participate in the sale of this incredible offering, the crown jewel of Larchmont's coastline," said Magarelli. "With spectacular views and spaces that meld glamour and period grandeur, this property is truly unrivaled."
