Iberdrola said Wednesday that it has donated medical and protective equipment worth 25 million euros ($27.4 million) to the Spanish health service to help it fight the coronavirus pandemic.

The move comes as the rapid spread of the virus has left the country facing a shortage of protective gear, beds and medical personnel.

The Spanish utility company said it has acquired 450 ventilators, 4.6 million masks, 120,000 protective coveralls and 20,000 pairs of protective eyewear from Chinese companies. It expects the equipment to arrive in Spain during the first weeks of April.

The company, which supplies energy to more than 100 million people, also said it will ensure electricity supply in all the countries in which it operates and to all its customers, prioritizing hospitals, health centers and other essential services.

Iberdrola said it will maintain the supply of energy to vulnerable users.
