Reduces Approval Time by 85 Percent Through Replacing a Paper-Based
Process, Resulting in Faster Delivery of Vaccines BELLEVUE, Wash.,
July 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Captaris, Inc. (NASDAQ:CAPA), a
leading provider of software products that automate
document-centric business processes, today announced Intervet
Australia is using Captaris Workflow(TM) to automate its vaccine
document approval cycle by replacing the old paper-based system.
The animal health company, a division of Akzo Nobel and part of
Intervet International, achieved full return on investment within
six months and reduced document approval cycles by more than 85
percent. "We were impressed that Captaris Workflow addresses the
whole business improvement cycle, not just separate processes,"
said David Gunter, IT manager for Intervet Australia, located in
Bendigo, Victoria. Use of Captaris Workflow also inspired a new
company mantra: "(Document approval) tasks are no longer lost,
ignored or deleted-only completed or escalated." Intervet Australia
must follow a regulated process for releasing documents related to
vaccine production. Previously, the process was
paper-based-documents were printed, distributed via internal office
mail to several people for "red pen editing," then returned to a
document controller who hand-typed changes. The approval process
cycle averaged three weeks and lacked visibility, accountability
and compliance. Now with Captaris Workflow, document approvals are
completed within an average of just two business days, cutting the
cycle time by more than 85 percent. "We achieved full Return on
Investment (ROI) in Captaris Workflow within about six months with
our first automated process," Gunter said. Captaris Workflow
virtually eliminated the need for manual intervention by the
document controller, freeing her to focus on quality control.
Captaris Workflow has also enhanced productivity for other
employees by making documents more accessible and providing
structure and tools for collaboration, according to Gunter. "We see
Captaris Workflow as the underlying glue to keep the process
moving," he said. Color-coded task lists, links to the latest
versions for electronic editing, status notes, Business Activity
Monitoring (BAM), and other details are all tracked by Captaris
Workflow and available via Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server and
Microsoft Exchange interfaces that are familiar to employees. About
