Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) announced today that,
after a competitive process, its Consultancy business was awarded a
contract by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), a
department of the United Kingdom Government, to provide technical
advisory services to DECC’s Office of Carbon Capture & Storage
(OCCS). DECC has developed one of the most comprehensive programs
in the world to support creation of a new carbon capture and
storage (CCS) industry to help mitigate climate change.
Company officials did not disclose the contract value, but noted
that the two-year contract is being delivered from its London
operations.
Under the terms of the contract, Jacobs is providing an
assessment of the agreed deliverables from two developers of full
chain CCS projects as technical advisor to support the delivery of
the CCS Commercialization Program. The scope involves review of key
technical aspects of the projects, including design deliverables,
project risks and their mitigation, methodology for quantification
of clean energy production, as well as advice on the development of
the project contracts with the developers, preparation of the bid
evaluation criteria and technical support for evaluation of the
bids. The two projects include the Peterhead Project in
Aberdeenshire and the White Rose Project in Yorkshire.
The UK CCS Commercialization Program has $1.55 billion (£1
billion) capital funding available to support the practical
experience in the design, construction and operation of
commercial-scale CCS.
In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Bob Duff
stated, “We are thrilled to work with the DECC team to support the
delivery of the CCS Commercialization Program. We look forward to
contributing our capital project development expertise and relevant
industry knowledge to this important program.”
DECC works to make sure the UK has secure, clean, affordable
energy supplies, and to promote international action to mitigate
climate change.
Jacobs is one of the world’s largest and most diverse providers
of technical professional and construction services.
