Empire Resorts, Inc. (NASDAQ-GM:NYNY)(“Empire”) and its wholly
owned subsidiaries (together with Empire, the “Company”), are
participating in Problem Gambling Awareness Month (“PGAM”).
The National Council on Problem Gambling (“NCPG”) sponsors the
PGAM campaign, a grassroots public awareness and outreach campaign.
The goal of this campaign is to educate the general public, and
health care professionals, about the warning signs of problem
gambling and to raise awareness about the help that is available
both locally and nationally. The theme of this year’s PGAM campaign
is “Have the Conversation.”
“This year’s PGAM theme, ‘Have the Conversation,’ lends itself
to so many possibilities. As a gaming facility, we are having the
conversation with the New York Council on Problem Gambling, the New
York State Gaming Commission, our staff and our guests,” said
Nanette Horner, Empire’s Chief Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer
and Chair of the Company’s Responsible Gaming Committee. “We are
pleased to participate in PGAM because it underscores our
commitment to engage our employees and guests in order to raise
awareness about problem gambling and, importantly, promote the
availability of help and hope locally, statewide and
nationally.”
The Company’s Responsible Gaming Committee organized creative
activities, to last throughout the month, that aim to educate
employees about responsible gaming and how it applies to the work
they do every day. Activities include responsible gaming contests
with games such as word search and cryptogram, quizzes about
gambling and pop culture and a game about gambling myths, facts and
probabilities. Employees are wearing PGAM buttons and PGAM and
other informational posters are displayed throughout the property.
PGAM also kicks off the Company’s renewal training in the New York
Council on Problem Gambling’s Problem and Responsible Gambling
training for casino employees.
“We encourage health care providers, families, friends and
gaming operators to ‘Have the Conversation’ and are pleased that
Empire’s efforts show that they have embraced this PGAM theme and
are dedicated to educating their staff on the issue of problem,”
said New York Council on Problem Gambling Executive Director, Jim
Maney.
“We appreciate Empire’s support of responsible gaming and their
participation in PGAM,” said Keith Whyte, Executive Director of
NCPG. “Their innovative and creative programs encapsulate our
vision for this grassroots campaign. We encourage other operators
in New York and elsewhere to emulate Empire’s efforts.”
