Cypress 4-Mb Serial SPI F-RAM™ Allows
High-Speed Data Logging for Prototyping Smart Factory Equipment,
Smart Meters, Sensor Nodes and Other Applications
Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) today announced that
MikroElektronika (MikroE), an embedded systems retailer, has
selected Cypress’ 4-Mb serial Ferroelectric Random Access Memory
(F-RAM™) to be included on its newest click board™ with a mikroBUS™
socket. The FRAM 2 click board is a compact, plug-and-play solution
designed to evaluate the data logging and processing capabilities
of Cypress F-RAMs, and the board enables faster prototyping and
development of industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

Cypress’ 4-Mb serial F-RAM family is an ideal memory choice for
industrial IoT applications and other low-power applications such
as smart meters, test and measurement equipment, wireless sensor
nodes and factory equipment that require high-performance and
high-reliability nonvolatile data capture. The devices feature a
40-Mhz Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), 2.0V to 3.6V operating
voltage range and are available in RoHS-compliant, 8-pin,
industry-standard packages. All Cypress F-RAMs provide 100-trillion
(10^14) read/write cycle endurance with 10 years data retention at
85° C or 151 years at 65° C. Cypress’ low-power F-RAMs are ideal
for applications that require continuous, high-frequency and
high-reliability data logging. More information about Cypress'
F-RAM portfolio is available at

“Our click boards have become an industry standard when
designing and prototyping new Internet of Things applications,”
said Aleksandar Mitrovic, Product Marketing Manager,
MikroElektronika. “Adding intelligence to industrial equipment
requires fast data logging, and power consumption is always a
concern. Cypress’ F-RAMs are fast, reliable and low-power, making
them a natural fit for our click board to support our customers’
Industrial IoT design needs.”
“With the ramp of Industry 4.0, there has been a push for
semiconductor suppliers to provide solutions that bring
intelligence to factory equipment,” said Douglas Mitchell, senior
product marketing manager of the RAM business unit at Cypress.
“High-performance, nonvolatile memories, such as Cypress’ F-RAMs,
are essential to capture critical data in industrial IoT systems
that require reliable, high-endurance data-logging. MikroE’s new
click board gives industrial IoT developers a fast and easy way to
prototype with our F-RAMs.”
About Cypress F-RAMs
Cypress offers a broad portfolio of F-RAM products with
densities from 4-Kb to 4-Mb and supply voltages from 2.0V to 5.5V.
Cypress F-RAMs feature virtually unlimited endurance of one-hundred
trillion read and write cycles, making them an ideal solution for
write-intensive applications. F-RAM is the industry's most energy
efficient nonvolatile RAM solution; the F-RAM cell is inherently
low power and operates without a charge pump. Cypress F-RAM is an
ideal solution for applications requiring high-performance,
high-reliability, low-cost nonvolatile memory solutions, including
automotive, industrial, computing, networking, smart meter, and
multifunction printer applications. More information about Cypress'
portfolio of F-RAM products is available
at www.cypress.com/nonvolatile.
