Uncorking a Smooth Online Presence for Virginia Winery Distribution Company

Virginia Winery Distribution Company (VWDC) partnered with
Virginia Interactive (VI) to redesign the VWDC website,
www.vwdc.org. The newly redesigned, award-winning site's key
features include a more attractive look and feel, a more engaging
user experience, and cleaner navigation. It has been optimized for
mobile applications, allowing for seamless ease of use across all
devices.
VWDC is a non-profit, non-inventory corporation, created by the
Commonwealth of Virginia to provide wholesale distribution services
for Virginia farm wineries. Small farm wineries had previously been
exempt from the Commonwealth's distribution system of producers,
distributors, and retailers. Legislation passed in 2006 brought
them under the traditional distribution system. VWDC was created in
2007 to ameliorate negative impact on smaller producers by allowing
distribution of its products through the VWDC.
The system has already seen a 40 percent increase in wine case
distribution between 2013 and 2017, with a total of 25,488 cases of
wine passing through the program in 2017. The website has likewise
allowed for adaptability to the robust market demand for cider,
reflected in the 69 percent leap in processing by the case between
2013 and 2017.

In addition to the award-winning website redesign, VWDC has
partnered with VI on crafting a robust and flexible online
marketplace that will roll out in December of this year. The
application includes winery inventory, retailer ordering and
payment, order fulfillment, and a VWDC administrative area. Funding
for the project was made possible through a flexible model designed
to reduce up-front cost via a fixed fee per payment
transaction.
