In accordance with the new Transparency Rules the Company was informed on 7
March 2007 by Hermes Investment Management Limited, on behalf of BT Pension
Scheme Trustees Limited as trustee of the BT Pension Scheme and Hermes Pensions
Management Limited, that in fulfilment of their obligations under Disclosure and
Transparency Rule 5, as at close of business on 20 January 2007, they were
directly and indirectly interested in a total of 17,790,000 ordinary shares of
5p each in the Company ("Ordinary Shares"), representing approximately 10.68 per
cent. of the issued ordinary share capital.

Of these Ordinary Shares Hermes Investment Management Limited is directly
interested in 9,845,845 Ordinary Shares, representing 5.92 per cent. of the
company's current total issued ordinary share capital and indirectly interested
in 7,935,155 Ordinary Shares, representing 4.76 per cent. of the Company's
current total issued ordinary share capital.
