                       Notice of Cancellation of Listing

The Company has maintained a listing of its Shares on the London Stock Exchange
('the LSE') since 1946. However, over the years the number of shareholders on
the United Kingdom share register of the Company has gradually reduced leading
to a reduction in the number of share transactions on the LSE to the extent that
there are no longer any market makers in the Company's Shares. As a consequence,
there have been no dealings in the Company's Shares on the LSE for more than
five years.

The number of shareholders on the UK register of the Company is now 47, who hold
17,271 Shares which represents 16.3% of the Company's authorised and issued
share capital. As at Friday, 28 June 2002, the last practical date prior to the
issue of this document, only 24.7% of the Company's Shares were 'in public
hands', as defined by the Listing Rules of the UK Listing Authority.

In view of the above mentioned facts and the disproportionately high cost of
maintaining the listing and the UK share register, the Board of Directors of the
Company has decided that the UK Listing Authority should be asked to cancel the
listing of the Company's Shares of R20 each on the Official List of the UK
Listing Authority with effect from Friday, 2 August 2002. After that date
trading of the Company's Shares on the LSE will no longer be possible.

Following cancellation of the listing of the Company's Shares, the United
Kingdom section of the share register will be closed and the names and addresses
contained therein will in future be administered from the principal share
register maintained by the Company at its registered office at 36 Stockdale
Street, Kimberley 8301, South Africa (Tel: +27 (0) 53 839 4111). However,
arrangements will be made to ensure that those shareholders with registered
addresses in Europe (including the United Kingdom), or who have mandated
dividend payments to addresses in Europe (including the United Kingdom), will
continue to receive payment of their dividends in United Kingdom currency and
that any existing dividend mandates remain in place.
