Reno, Nevada-based Itronics, Inc. (OTCBB: ITRO) announced Tuesday a breakthrough in its silver refining process aimed at reducing costs of its refining process by as much as 40%.

The small business operator had previously announced in late February an expansion of its stage 1 refinery plan which when deployed would increase 'green silver' production ten-fold. In a telephone interview Tuesday, Itronics' founding President Dr. John Whitney said the current breakthrough announced yesterday was not dependent on the refining plant's expansion. Whitney said "those results would reflect in the Company's current operating year."

Whitney couldn't forecast results in relation to Itronics' 'green silver' refining process improvements for the remainder of the year, saying Itronics didn't break out details of its refining costs in its quarterly and annual financial statements. But he did indicate that the number "would be measurable" overall, depending on the level of silver refining achieved this year.

Looking ahead, Itronics will issue its full-year results in mid-April, which it had indicated previously as showing an improvement over the prior year's results. Those double-digit gains may give the street insight into the future when taking into consideration Itronics core business of manufacturing environmentally friendly liquid fertilizers sold under its GOLD'n GRO brand having expanded those product lines over the course of several years.

The company boasts the only EPA approved plant in the United States for recycling photowaste liquids. Over a long development span, Itronics has sunk millions into its liquid fertilizer product develop and is only now seeing its GOLD'n GRO brand become established. Itronics is also looking at expanding some of its recyclable materials sources once the stage 1 silver refinery expansion is put into play which will add to its overall 'green silver' refining capability. That extra revenue along with the dramatic cut in refining costs announced yesterday could prove to be a big boost to operations.
